Lawless & Associates Pipe Organ Company, Inc. currently has three full time employees:

Irv Lawless is the President and Tonal Director. Irv brings 45 years of experience and knowledge to the company. His first training was with Lewis & Hitchcock, under Mr. Ted Lewis and William Hitchcock. Later he worked with the AEolian-Skinner Organ Company doing installations and tonal finishing. This included the 4/104 at the National Presbyterian Church and the Kennedy Center Concert Hall both in Washington DC. At the close of AEolian-Skinner in 1972 he started his own firm in the Washington DC area where they had jobs from Interlochen Michigan to Bermuda. In 1987 Irv accepted a position with M.P. Möller Company in Hagerstown MD, eventually working up to Tonal Manager and Assistant Vice President. At the close of Möller in 1992, the current company was formed; starting with the completion of contracts defaulted on by Möller. Irv goes on service visits and installations as well as maintaining the business operations. He has also been Organ Curator at the Kennedy Center since its opening in 1972. Irv is a member of the American Institute of Organbuilders (AIO) and American Guild of Organists (AGO).

Cynthia (Cindy) L. Bachtell started with the company in October 2000 as a shop helper. Cindy was new to pipe organ business and spent many years working in the shop learning the particulars of the business from wiring consoles and chests to woodworking and finishing.

In 2006, Cindy became Office Manager, where she runs the day to day operations, scheduling of service, and bookkeeping.

Trevor R. Timmons started with the company in January 2002. Trevor was cultivating an interest in the organ when he came to us for the position that was open for a pipe organ technician. He has learned tuning and service work quickly and has also brought high-end wood working skills with him. In 2009, Trevor became the Shop Foreman. He can be seen in the shop or on the road maintaining or installing organs. As an accomplished pianist and musician, he has studied the organ and has become an accomplished organist as well. Trevor currently is organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greencastle, and plays for a number of outside groups locally. Trevor is a member of the American Institute of Organbuilders (AIO) and American Guild of Organists (AGO).

  • What others are saying…

Irving Lawless, having been involved with our Möller organ since 1976 and its principal caretaker since 1998, knows every inch of this instrument and has deeply invested himself in its care. He and his knowledgeable tuning, maintenance, and office staff provide exemplary service, listen carefully to our needs, and always go well above and beyond the call of duty to make this pipe organ sound glorious each and every week. We could not ask for anything, or anyone, finer and would highly recommend this firm to any church!
